Body Armor PFA Walker | Partial Foot Amputation Orthosis

The Body Armor® PFA Walker is a specialised pneumatic-controlled-ankle-movement (CAM) walker, specifically engineered to protect the foot following a Partial Foot Amputation (PFA). As a critical interim prosthesis, it is designed to be worn from the immediate post-operative phase until a permanent prosthetic can be fitted.

This orthosis is essential for managing recovery across several clinical indications, including:

  • Diabetic Foot Syndrome: Protecting vulnerable tissue and managing pressure.
  • PAOD (Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease): Supporting ischaemic limbs during healing.
  • Post-Surgical Management: Ideal for Transmetatarsal, Chopart, or Lisfranc amputations resulting from trauma or disease.

By providing a stable, wide-opening design to accommodate post-surgical swelling, the Body Armor® PFA Walker ensures patient compliance and safety during the most sensitive stages of rehabilitation.

Innovative Design: Engineering comfort and stability

Engineered for mobility without the bulk, the NEW Body Armor® PFA Walker is 25% lighter than previous models. Every component is selected to balance rigid protection with lightweight comfort.

  • Patented PowerPod® Outsole: The sole features a continuous layer of high-grade EVA foam. This material, common in elite athletic footwear, provides exceptional shock absorption to protect the surgical site from harmful impact forces.
  • Integrated Pneumatic Support: The soft interior lining features an integrated air pump, allowing for even pressure distribution. This system is easily adjusted to accommodate fluctuating oedema (swelling) throughout the day.
  • Ergonomic Gait & Alignment: The beveled PowerPod® construction promotes a natural posture and ergonomic movement. By reducing the footbed profile, the walker better equalises leg height, significantly reducing secondary hip and back pain.
  • Durability & Safety: The zoned tread pattern ensures high traction on both smooth and uneven surfaces. The proprietary construction prevents delamination (material separation), ensuring the integrity of the device throughout long-term interim use.
  • Versatile Fit & Durability: Available in three sizes (Medium, Large, and a new Extra Large), the walker features a universal left/right fit to streamline NHS stock management, while the proprietary outsole construction prevents delamination to ensure long-term product integrity.

Clinical Note:
To further improve patient gait and balance, we recommend the TwinShoe® for the non-affected foot to equalise leg length perfectly. While the walker promotes mobility, patients must not drive a vehicle while wearing the device.

  • Diabetic Foot Syndrome – Management of ulcers or post-amputation recovery.
  • PAOD (Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease) – Protection for ischaemic limbs following surgery.
  • Postoperative – After partial foot amputation, specifically for Transmetatarsal, Chopart, and Lisfranc amputations.
  • Trauma Recovery – Stability for the foot following severe injury and subsequent partial amputation.
  • Patented PowerPod® Outsole – A continuous layer of high-grade EVA foam (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) integrated into the sole for professional-grade shock absorption.
  • Integrated Pneumatic Air Pump – A built-in inflation system within the soft interior lining, allowing for granular control of internal pressure.
  • 25% Lighter Construction – Utilises advanced, lightweight polymers and strategic component placement to reduce overall mass compared to previous models.
  • Bevelled Low-Profile Sole – A specially engineered sole curvature designed to facilitate a natural roll-over during the gait cycle.
  • Ventilated Honeycomb Shell – A rigid outer frame featuring a breathable honeycomb pattern to promote constant airflow.
  • Wide-Opening Entry System – An expansive anterior opening designed to accommodate post-surgical bulk and dressings.
  • Zoned High-Traction Tread – A proprietary tread pattern on the outsole designed to maintain grip on both wet and dry surfaces.
  • Anti-Delamination Technology – A proprietary manufacturing process that bonds the sole layers to prevent separation over time.
  • Reduced Physical Fatigue – The ultra-lightweight design makes the walker easier to lift and move, which is critical for patients with reduced strength during early rehabilitation.
  • Superior Joint Protection – The EVA foam pods absorb harmful impact forces, protecting the delicate amputation site and reducing pain while walking.
  • Personalised Comfort & Swelling Management – Users can easily adjust the air pump to maintain a snug, comfortable fit as post-surgical swelling (oedema) fluctuates throughout the day.
  • Improved Posture & Reduced Hip Pain – The low-profile footbed helps equalise leg length, preventing the “unbalanced” feeling that often leads to secondary hip and lower back strain.
  • Enhanced Skin Health – The ventilated shell prevents heat and moisture build-up, reducing the risk of skin maceration and supporting long-term wound healing.
  • Effortless Application – The wide-opening design allows patients or carers to apply the boot with minimal fuss, even when the foot is heavily bandaged.
  • Increased Mobility Confidence – High-traction treads provide a secure grip on various floor types, giving the user the stability they need to mobilise safely at home or in the clinic.
  • Long-Term Reliability – The durable, anti-delamination construction ensures the device maintains its integrity throughout the entire interim period before a permanent prosthesis is fitted.
