Description
The Plantar Fasciitis Splint is manufactured in the UK by Beagle Orthopaedic and is made from a durable black elastic. Comfortable to wear, the splint helps support the arch of your foot and provides gentle stretch at night or when resting to reduce pain. The durable black elastic helps the foot from overheating.
If tension and stress on the bowstring on the arch of the foot becomes too great, small tears can occur in the plantar fascia. These tears can become inflamed, causing pain commonly known as Plantar Fasciitis.
The Plantar Fasciitis splint has been designed with 3 straps. The top strap allows your foot to stay in place and creates a pocket on the bottom side, so if required a Kool Pak (ice pack) can be placed to reduce inflammation, swelling, and muscular pain (follow the instructions on best practice). The middle ankle strap has a non-slip material on the inside and creates a short lever anchor to the foot for better focus and tension. The top strap contains orange strips for stretch guidance that allows you to monitor your progress and pressure on the plantar fascia.
The brace does not compress the foot or calf and having a short lever strap to the ankle creates a strong and focused tension on the plantar fascia and does not change the amount of pressure when moving the knee in flexion or extension. The brace will not come off at night due the strapping system.
What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of pain on the bottom of the foot and it is the third most common injury in runners.
The plantar fascia is a thick web like band of fibrous tissue and ligaments that connect your heel to the front of your foot. It acts as a shock absorber and supports the arch of your foot, helping you walk.
Risk factors
Although the causes of Plantar fasciitis are poorly understood, the plantar fascia is designed to absorb the high stresses and strains we place on our feet. But, sometimes, too much pressure damages or tears the tissues, it is also quite common in sportspeople, poor foot mechanics, overweight and sedentary people.
The body’s natural response to injury is inflammation, which results in heel pain and stiffness of plantar fasciitis.
Symptoms
Plantar fasciitis typically feels like a stabbing pain that is located at the bottom of the foot (the arch or/and in the heel). The pain is usually the worst on the first few steps in the morning or when you get up after sitting for a while, it subsides after a few minutes of walking, but the pain can be aggravated after running or long walks.
It also tends to be ‘self-limiting’ which means it can go away on its own but that can take over a year.
Complications
Ignoring plantar fasciitis may result in chronic heel pain that hinders your regular activities. Changing the way you walk as a way to relieve plantar fasciitis pain might lead to foot, knee, hip, or back problems.
Indications for use:
» Plantar Fasciitis
Features and benefits:
» Easy to apply
» Made from a durable and strong material which is flexible
» Light and compact which is easy to store
» Comfortable and secure to wear, promoting a good stretch in the foot
» The clever design uses an ankle strap, allowing for focused tension to be applied on the plantar fascia when the knee is in a bent or extended position
» The superior strap (orange strips) allows the user to monitor pressure and progress
» The semi-elastic inner sole gives flexibility to the plantar area and a firm hold at the toes, where it’s needed. This allows the plantar fascia to stretch fully from the toes to the heel
» The horizontal strap keeps your foot in place and contains a handy lower section in which you can place a Kool Pak to ease any inflammation or swelling that may have occurred
» Can be worn day and night
» Hand wash and air dry
