From Vision to Movement: Innovating Orthopaedic Care Since the Eighties

In the early nineteen eighties, two specialists at the University Hospital in Maastricht (Dr Cees Rein van den Hoogenband and Professor Co Greep), were pondering about the functional treatment of joint injuries. Together they were looking for a derivative method of the successful Coumans tape bandage in order to treat joint injuries in a functional way. Both were convinced that there had to be a simpler and more user friendly alternative for the patient. But how could this be achieved? The answer lay in developing a product using textiles, elastic straps and support features. Thus in 1986 Nea International BV was set up.

push Ortho Aequi Ankle Brace

The Ortho Aequi is an effective ankle orthosis which strikes a balance between efficient mechanical support of a disabled ankle and good wearer comfort.

The rigid support is situated exclusively on the medial side of the ankle and has a recess for the malleolus. The lateral side is made from preformed foam, which easily adapts to the individual anatomy. Inversion/eversion movement of the ankle is restricted whilst plantar/dorsal flexion is allowed adequate freedom, meaning that no inhibition is felt during normal walking and running. Elastic straps apply pressure around the ankle and the brace is fastened by means of a diagonal strap. Worn over the sock, and optimal stabilisation can be achieved if it is worn with a closed shoe.

Ortho Aequi Ankle Brace Junior

The Aequi Ankle Junior from Push is an effective ankle orthosis which strikes a balance between efficient mechanical support of a disabled ankle and good wearer comfort. The ankle brace stabilises the ankle joint during inversion as well as eversion and in both neutral and flexed positions.

The shell which forms the basis of the brace provides optimal support for the ankle in a simple and comfortable manner. The diagonal straps made of non-elastic material for adequate mechanical support providing the correct compression. The brace can be secured in such a way that the optimal fit can be found. The molecule symbols help the wearer to fasten the straps correctly and in the right sequence.

Empowering Steps, Enhancing Stability

The Push Ortho AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis) provides essential foot support throughout the gait cycle, lifting the foot during the swing phase, controlling plantar flexion after heel strike, and allowing a smooth rolling motion. Additionally, it offers lateral stability to the ankle joint and permits natural flexion and extension during the stance phase, resulting in a more efficient and natural gait.

The AFO is equipped with adjustable elastic straps, enabling tailored dynamic foot lift during the swing phase to suit the user’s unique needs. Upon heel strike, the straps gently control plantar flexion for enhanced stability. This innovative design is also compatible with light footwear for versatile everyday use.

Measurement Instructions: Position the foot at a 90° angle to the lower leg, then measure the circumference around the heel and instep for accurate sizing.

Supporting Mobility, Restoring Confidence

The Push Ortho AF is designed to support individuals experiencing a range of conditions, including CVA, hernia, multiple sclerosis, post-polio syndrome, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury, and polyneuropathy. It provides essential assistance for those with limited control of ankle dorsiflexion during the swing phase and heel strike/flat-foot positions of the gait cycle. This orthosis features a unique fixing strap system for secure and comfortable wear, accommodating light footwear, including slippers. It enhances lateral stability at the ankle joint while allowing natural flexion and extension during the stance phase, promoting an efficient, more natural gait.
